The chapel of the Friars' House

We are housed in the Fraterhuis chapel. A building full of history! From a community of brothers who taught the region to read and write, to a plague house where the sick were cared for, to what it is now…. But what is it now?

The chapel is not only happily inhabited by Erik and Esther, but is also the destination for fans of Henk Helmantel, the famous Dutch painter and 'Artist of the Year 2008'.

Helmets fit in the chapel of the Fraterhuis in Harderwijk, for Henk finds his inspiration in Northern European art culture and is not without reason called the last Master Painter, the Vermeer of the 20th century. Medieval churches, historical archaeological finds, old glassware—it can all be found in his oeuvre, but also in the Fraterhuis.

As an enthusiast and investor in Henk's works, helmantelschilderijen.nl has grown into the most important place where collectors of his paintings gather.
