Henk Helmantel created this work especially for the 400th anniversary of the Synod of Dordrecht. Depicted is the mantelpiece Bible combined with bread from Emden, a place where many Protestants fled at the time to escape the Spaniards. In this scene, Henk brings histories together entirely in his own style. It is not without reason that it has become a well-known Helmantel piece since its first exhibition in Dordrecht.
