Flower still lifes occupy a small, but by no means insignificant, place in Henk Helmantel’s oeuvre. During his studies at the Minerva Academy, Henk became increasingly fascinated by Impressionism. The majority of Henk’s works from this period were painted in that style. A closer look reveals the influence of Impressionism in Henk’s later realistic works as well. That is precisely why Henk is sometimes called a fijnschilder, although he absolutely is not one.
