The similarity between the quince and the medlars is that they both grow in Henk Helmantel's garden. Add to that the fact that Henk grew up on a nursery, and you understand that there are few artists so familiar with the shapes, colors, and textures of these fruits. Consequently, these works are the most popular and, to the general public, the most recognizable as Helmantel. Look closely at the heart of the medlar on the left, count the number of colors used in the petals, discover the light and shadow, and you will see that you are dealing with a beautiful piece.
