Museum More organized a special exhibition on the continuation of the great Dutch art tradition. Henk Helmantel was among them, along with Dick Ket, Floris Verster, and Jan Mankes. Dick Ket is known for his distinctive perspectives. He carefully arranged his still lifes on the floor of his room, allowing him to view his composition from above. He had no choice, as he was confined to his home because he suffered from a serious heart condition.
Although entirely in his own style, a number of floor compositions can be found in Henk's oeuvre. The floor composition with clay pipe, bowl, and green bottle is a beautiful example of this. The work is grand and impressive. The sharpness of the bowl and the reflection of the glass draw the viewer into the work. Looking turns into admiration. It belongs on the wall of a museum, or in the home of a true enthusiast.
